VISA

  1. Do I need a visa to go to India?
    Yes, all foreigners except for nationals of Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives, need a visa to enter India. With regard to Maldives' nationals, a visa is required if intended stay in India would be longer than 90 days.

  2. Can I get a visa to enter India on arrival?
    No, you must obtain a visa prior to taking a flight to India. Visa cannot be obtained on arrival in India and immigration authorities will not permit any foreigner to enter India without a visa.

  3. I wish to visit India for tourism/to attend a friend's marriage/ to meet my friends. Which visa should I apply for?
    You should apply for a Tourist Visa valid for multiple entries and a maximum stay of six months in India. Kindly note that Tourist Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible.

  4. I am an Australian national and I go for one or two months every year for tourism. Which visa should I apply for?
    You may apply for a 5-year Tourist visa that enables unlimited visits to India within the tenure of the visa subject to maximum stay of 90 days per visit.

  5. I am a frequent traveler to India for business meetings/to explore opportunities for partnerships with Indian companies. Which visa should I apply for?
    You may apply for a Business Visa valid for multiple entries for either six months or one year along with requisite documentation as per the B-Visa checklist. Kindly note that a Business Visa does not permit you to work in India. In case you wish to work in India, you should apply for an Employment Visa.

  6. I would be changing flights/airports in India in order to travel to my final destination (say Nepal, Thailand etc.) Do I need a visa to change flights/airport terminals?
    You need to apply for a transit visa in case you are going to change from the international terminal to the domestic terminal of any Indian airport or if you are going to stay in an airport hotel even though for a few hours. In case you remain within limits of the waiting area reserved for international transit passengers of the Indian airport you do not need a transit visa. Kindly note that the maximum period of stay in India permitted by a transit visa is 72 hours.

  7. I have to participate in a Conference/Seminar/Workshop in India. Which visa should I apply for?
    You should apply for a Conference Visa to enable you to participate in the Conference/Seminar/ Workshop along with invitation letter, details of the Conference etc.

  8. I have to go for internship/training in a University/institute/Company in India for a short period. Which visa should I apply for?
    You should apply for an Entry Visa along with a copy of the offer letter stating the terms of internship. You may also be required to submit a copy of inter-university student exchange agreement if the proposed internship is a component of such agreement. You would be required to submit proof of financial standing to support your stay in India.

  9. I will be going to India for work/employment. My family will also accompany me during my stay in India. Which visa should I apply for? Would my children be able to study in India?
    Would my children be able to study in India? You must apply for an Employment Visa along with requisite documentation as per the relevant E-Visa checklist. Once your E-Visa application is approved, your wife and children may apply for Entry Visas in case they are accompanying you on your stay in India. Your children would be able to secure admission in schools/college in India once they have been granted Entry Visas. Kindly note that it is mandatory to undergo registration formalities at the nearest Office of the FRRO/FRO within 14 days of your arrival in India if you are going to stay in India for a period longer than 180 days.

  10. I will be going for studying in India for one semester/trimester in an IIT/IIM/IISc./Indian University. Which visa should I apply for?
    You should apply for a Student Visa along with a copy of the letter from the Institute/University confirming your acceptance as a student. You would also be required to submit proof of financial standing to support your stay in India.

  11. I wish to visit certain areas in India like Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland etc. Can I obtain a visa to visit these areas?
    A tourist visa is not sufficient to visit these areas because all of these regions in India are restricted/protected areas for which it is necessary to obtain a Restricted/ Protected Area Permit (RAP/PAP). This permit can be obtained in India either from the Ministry of Home Affairs or FRRO concerned after entering India with a tourist visa. You can visit certain open areas in Sikkim for a maximum period of 15 days in case you request a 'special endorsement for Sikkim' at the time of applying for your tourist visa.

  12. I applied for a visa for India but I have changed my mind about going to India. Can I claim a refund of visa fee?
    Visa fees are non-refundable once the visa application is accepted and cannot be refunded even if the visa is refused/not granted.

  13. Do I need a visa for my pet who is accompanying me on my visit to India?
    Visa is not required for taking a pet to India but certain customs and vaccination-related regulations have to be complied with. Kindly consult your airline/travel agent for details of these regulations and necessary documentation to facilitate the visit.

  14. My application and passport have been submitted and it has been a while, how can I enquire about the status of my application?
    You can trace your application on line by visiting our website www.vfs-in-au.net or by calling our helpline Mondays to Fridays between 0830 hrs to 1500 hrs.

  15. Can I study in India?
    Yes. With a valid Student Visa

  16. Can I work in India?
    Yes. With a valid Employment Visa

  17. Will the visa fees be refunded?
    No refunds. Fees once received would not be refunded, even if the application is withdrawn or service denied.

  18. How do I know when my passport is ready for collection from the India Passport & Visa Services Centre?
    Please track your passport either by logging on the website or you can even call our helpline number to check the status of your passport.

  19. Can I collect my passport from the High Commission / Consulate General of India, Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne?
    No. The passport has to be collected from the place where the application was made.

  20. Do I have to submit my passport and visa application with the India Visa Application Centre only?
    Yes, However Diplomats and officials of foreign diplomatic Mission, UN and other international organization personnel must submit their visa application directly to the Consulate or High Commission of India.

  21. How do I pay for the visa charges and service charges?
    Visa fee and services charges can be paid by Bankers Cheque/ Demand Draft/ Money Order favoring VFS Services Australia Pty Ltd or by Cash, only if the application is submitted in person at the Application centre.

  22. Requirements for obtaining visa.

    All applicants are required to apply in the prescribed visa application form along with one passport size photograph, passport in original, flight details/ itinerary and the prescribed fee. Passport must be valid for a minimum period of six months and in cases of long term visas, at least till the duration of the visa requested for, A combined Bankers Cheque / Money Order for Application fee, VFS Processing Charge and Courier Charge (Optional) favoring VFS Services Australia Pty Ltd. Personal Cheques will not be accepted.

    Note: Applicants from ACT need to submit their application at the India Passport & Visa Services Centre in Canberra.

    Applicants from Northern Territory, Queensland need to submit their application at the India Passport & Visa Services Centre in Brisbane.

    Applicants from Western Australia need to submit their application at the India Passport & Visa Services Centre in Perth.

    Applicants from NSW need to submit their application at the India Passport & Services Centre in Sydney.


    Applicants from South Australia need to submit their application at the India Passport & Services Centre in Adelaide.

    Applicants from Victoria and Tasmania need to submit their application at the India Passport & Visa Services Centre in Melbourne.

  23. Visas for minor children (under 15 years): Application MUST be furnished with following documents
    1. Copy of Date of Birth certificate,
    2. No Objection Letter from both the parents along with the photocopy of the relevant
    3. Photocopy bio page of parents' passports to verify signatures,
    4. Both parents MUST sign the visa application for minor children.
    5. A combined Bankers Cheque (Demand Draft) / Money Order for Application fee, VFS Processing Charge and Courier Charge (Optional) favoring VFS Services Australia Pty Ltd. Personal Cheques will not be accepted.

  24. Is a Temporary Resident considered a Non-Resident for purpose of issue of visa?
    Yes

PASSPORT

  1. 1. Why does it take minimum 45 days for issue of a fresh passport in place of an expired one?
    Issue of a fresh passport in lieu of an expired one takes a minimum of 45 days as reference to original passport issuing authorities needs to be made for verification of particulars/antecedents etc.

  2. When to renew the passport and when to apply for a new passport?
    An Indian passport is normally valid for 10 years from the date of its issue. It must be replaced with a fresh passport after expiry of its validity. Application for a fresh passport can be made up to one year before the date of expiry of the present passport. It is always better to apply well in time. Similarly, if your passport is due to expire but has not lived its life of 10 years you should apply well in time for its renewal.

  3. Requirements for applying for new/fresh passport.
    Application Form for new passport duly filled in. Current passport and additional booklets, if any, issued subsequently. Four latest passport size photographs, one recent photograph to be pasted on the application form and signed across. A fee of AUD 78.00, VFS Service charge of AUD 18.00 (Inclusive of GST) per applicant and Document/Passport return courier fee AUD 16.50 (Inclusive of GST) per applicant.

    Minimum processing time for issuing new passport is minimum 45 days.

  4. Requirements for applying for lost passport.
    Police report regarding the loss of passport. Submit photocopy of the lost passport, if available. If photocopy is not available, number, date of issue and place of issue of the lost passport must be furnished. Eight photographs. Form for new passport duly filled in, one photograph to be pasted on the application form and signed across. If the applicant is working then one reference from the employer is required and two references from Indian passport holders with copies of their passport attached are required. If the applicant is a student then 1 letter from the university is required and two references from Indian nationals with copies of their passport attached are required. A fee of AUD 240.00. VFS Service charge of AUD 18.00 (Inclusive of GST) per applicant and Document/Passport return courier fee AUD 16.50 (Inclusive of GST) per applicant.

    Duplicate passport in lieu of a lost passport is issued after requisite verification and clearances. Processing may take up to 6 months. In case of damaged passport minimum processing time may take up to 6 months.

  5. Requirements for change of name in passport after marriage.
    Application form duly filled in, current passports of husband and wife, photocopy of marriage certificate JP attested.

    If there is a complete name change, additional Sworn Affidavit signed by applicant, photocopy of Deed Poll JP attested, placed advertisement in the classifieds of an Indian and Australian national daily newspaper (original advertisement / dated newspaper) to be produced at the time of lodgment.

  6. Requirements for change of appearance in passport.
    Application Form for new passport duly filled in. Current passport and additional booklets, if any, issued subsequently. Four latest passport size photographs, one photograph to be pasted on the application form and signed across. Duly notarized affidavit from the applicant giving reasons for change of appearance to be signed in the front of Justice of Peace. Affidavit must also bear old and new photographs, a fee of AUD78.00, VFS Service charge of AUD18.00 (Inclusive of GST) per applicant and Document/Passport return courier fee (optional) AUD15.00 per application. Minimum processing time for issuing new passport due to change of appearance is 35 days.

OVERSEAS CITIZEN OF INDIA

  1. Who is eligible to apply for OCI?
    A foreign national, who was eligible to become a citizen of India on 26.01.1950 or was a citizen of India on or at anytime after 26.01.1950 or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947 and his/her children and grand children, provided his/her country of citizenship allows dual citizenship in some form or other under the local laws, is eligible for registration as an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). Minor children of such person are also eligible for OCI. However, if the applicant had ever been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, he/she will not be eligible for OCI.

  2. Who is an NRI?
    "Non Resident Indian" (NRI) means a person resident outside India who is a citizen of India or is a person of Indian origin.

  3. Who is PIO or Person of Indian origin?
    "Person of Indian Origin " means a citizen of any country (not being a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh ) if:
    1. he/she at any time held an Indian passport; or
    2. he/she or either of his/her parents or grand parents or great grand parents was born in and permanently resident in India as defined in the Government of India Act, 1935, and other territories that became part of India thereafter provided neither was at any time a citizen of any of the specified countries; or
    3. he/she is a spouse of a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin covered under (1.) and (2.) above.

  4. Who was eligible to become Citizen of India on 26.01.1950?
    Any person who or either of whose parents or any of whose grand-parents Was born in India as defined in the Government of India Act, 1935 (as originally Enacted), and who was ordinarily residing in any country outside India was Eligible to become citizen of India on 26.01.1950.

  5. Which territories became part of India after 15.08.1947 and from what Date?
    The territories which became part of India after 15.08.1947 are:
    1. Sikkim from 26.04.1975
    2. Pondicherry from 16.08.1962
    3. Dadra & Nagar Haveli from 11.08.1961
    4. Goa, Daman and Diu from 20.12.1961

  6. Can the spouse of the eligible person apply for OCI?
    Yes, if he/she is eligible in his/her own capacity.

  7. Can children of parents, wherein one of the parents is eligible for OCI, Can apply for OCI?
    Yes.

  8. In what form should a person apply for OCI and where are they Available?
    A family consisting of spouses and up to two minor children can apply in the Same form which can be filed online or downloaded from our Website.

  9. What documents have to be attached with the application?
    The following documents shall be enclosed for each applicant:
    1. Proof of present citizenship
    2. Evidence of self or parents or grand parents,
      • being eligible to become a citizen of India at the time of Commencement of the Constitution; or
      • Belonging to a territory that became part of India after 15th August, 1947; or
      • Being citizen of India on or after 26th January, 1950
        These could be:
        • Copy of the passport: or
        • Copy of the domicile certificate issued by the Competent Authority; or
        • Any other proof.
    3. Evidence of relationship as parent/grand parent, if their Indian origin is claimed as basis for grant of OCI.
    4. Application fee by way of Demand Draft ( AUD 396.00 for each applicant ;AUD 36.00 for each PIO card holder) + the logistic fee of $18 per applicant
    5. PIO card holder should submit a copy of his/her PIO card.

  10. What documents would qualify for "Any other proof" for evidence of self or parents or grand parents being eligible for grant of OCI?
    Any documentary evidence by which the officer equivalent to under Secretary to the Government of India in the Indian Mission/Post can diligently Arrive at the decision.

  11. How many copies of application have to be submitted?
    Application has to be submitted in two full sets (with enclosures) for each applicant. Both sets should have original signature of the applicant and one photograph.

  12. Whether applicant(s) have to go in person to submit the application(s)?
    Application can be submitted in person/Travel agent/Representative or by Post.

  13. Whether the applicant (s) have to take oath before the Counsel of the Indian Mission/Post?
    No. Earlier provision in this regard has been done away with.

  14. Where to submit the application?
    Applicants from ACT need to submit their application at the India Passport & Visa Services Centre in Canberra.

    Applicants from Northern Territory, Queensland need to submit their application at the India Passport & Visa Services Centre in Brisbane.

  15. 15. Can a person apply in the country where he is ordinarily residing?
    Yes.

  16. What are the consequences of furnishing wrong information or Suppressing material information?
    All the applications will be subject to pre or post enquiry depending on Whether any adverse information is available or not. If the Government comes to the knowledge that any false information was furnished or material information Was suppressed, the registration as OCI already granted shall be cancelled by an Order under section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955. The persons will also be Blacklisted banning his/her entry into India.

  17. What is the fee for application for registration as OCI?
    AUD 414.00 for each applicant for OCI registration (registration fee $396 + logistic fee of $18 for the Center) PIO Card holder, AUD 54.00 (registration fee $36 + logistic fee $18) for each applicant.

  18. What is the time taken for registration as OCI?
    Within 30 days of the application, if there is no adverse information Available against the applicant. If any adverse information is available against the Applicant, the decision to grant or otherwise is taken within 120 days.

  19. 19. If the registration as OCI is not granted, what amount will be refunded?
    An amount of AUD 360.00 shall be refunded, if Registration is refused. AUD 36.00 is the processing fees, which is non-refundable.

  20. Can a PIO cardholder apply?
    Provided he/she is otherwise eligible for grant of OCI like any other Applicant.

  21. Will the PIO Cardholder be granted OCI registration gratis?
    He/she has to make a payment of AUD 36.00 along with the application VFS Service charge of AUD18.00 (Inclusive of GST) per applicant and Document/Passport return courier fee (optional) AUD15.00 per application.

  22. Will the PIO card be honored till the time they are valid even after Acquisition of OCI?
    No. PIO card will have to be surrendered to Indian Mission/Post/MHA for grant of OCI registration certificate and OCI 'U' visa sticker.

  23. What will be issued after registration as OCI?
    A registration certificate in the form of a booklet will be issued and a multiple entry, multi-purpose OCI 'U' visa sticker will be pasted on the foreign passport of the applicant. For this purpose, the applicant has to send the original passport to the India Passport & Visa Services Centre after receipt of the acceptance letter/ verifying the status of the application online.

  24. Will a separate OCI passport be issued?
    No.

  25. Will a duplicate certificate of registration as OCI will be issued?
    Yes. For this purpose, an application has to be made to the Indian High Commission or Consulate General concerned with evidence for loss of certificate. In case of mutilated/damaged Certificate an application has to be made enclosing the same. The applications in both the cases have to be made to directly to the HCI/ CGI concerned.

  26. Will a new OCI visa sticker be issued on the new foreign passport after the expiry of the old passport?
    Yes. On payment of requisite fee, a new OCI 'U' visa sticker will be issued. However, the applicant can continue to carry the old passport wherein OCI 'U' visa sticker was pasted along with new passport for visiting India without seeking a new visa, as the visa is for lifelong.

  27. Will the applicant lose his citizenship after registering as OCI?
    No. As only citizen of the country which allows dual citizenship under the local laws in some form or the other are eligible for applying for registration as OCI, losing foreign citizenship does not arise.

  28. Can a person holding OCI travel to protected area/restricted area Without permission?
    No. He/she will be required to seek PAP/RAP for such visits.

  29. Would the Indian civil/criminal laws be applicable to persons Registered as OCI?
    Yes, for the period OCI is living in India.

  30. Can a person registered as OCI be granted Indian citizenship?
    As per the provisions of section 5(1) (g) of the Citizenship Act, 1955, a Person who is registered as OCI for 5 years and is residing in India for 1 year out of the above 5 years, is eligible to apply for Indian Citizenship.

  31. Will OCI be granted gratis to certain categories of people?
    No.

  32. Can OCI be granted to foreign nationals who are not eligible for OCI, but married to persons who are eligible for OCI?
    No.

  33. Will foreign-born children of PIOs be eligible to become OCI?
    Yes, provided one of the parents is eligible to become OCI.

  34. What are the benefits of OCI?
    Following benefits will be allowed to OCI: (a) Multi-purpose, multiple entry, lifelong visa for visiting India. (b) Exemption from registration with local police authority for any length of stay in India. (c) Parity with NRIs in respect of economic, financial and education fields except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural/plantation properties.

  35. Will any other benefit be granted to OCI?
    Any other benefits to OCI will be notified by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) under Section 7B(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.

  36. Whether the OCI is entitled to voting rights?
    No.

  37. Whether the OCI is entitled to hold constitutional post in India?
    No.

  38. Whether the OCI is entitled to hold Government posts in India?
    No, except for the posts specified by an order by the Central Government.

  39. If a person is already holding more than one nationality, can he/she apply for OCI?
    Yes, as long as the local laws of at least one of the countries allow dual Citizenship in some form or other.

  40. What are the advantages of OCI when compared to PIO cardholders?
    1. OCI is entitled to life long visa free travel to India whereas for PIO Cardholder, it is for 15 years.
    2. PIO cardholder is required to register with local Police authority for Stay exceeding 180 days in India on any single visit whereas OCI is exempted from registration with Police authority for any length of Stay in India.

  41. Whether an OCI be entitled to apply for and obtain a normal Indian passport which is given to a citizen of India?
    Yes. As per the provisions of section 5(1) (g) of the Citizenship Act, 1955, a person who is registered as OCI for 5 years and is residing in India for 1 year out of the above 5 years, is eligible to apply for Indian Citizenship.

  42. Whether nationals of Commonwealth countries are eligible for OCI?
    Yes, if they fulfill the eligibility criteria.

  43. Should PIO holders give a copy of PIO card and also proof of Indian origin?
    Copy of PIO card is to be submitted for availing less fee for OCI. However, proof of Indian origin should also be submitted to get OCI.

  44. Can a person renounce OCI?
    Yes. He/she has to declare intention of renunciation in Form XXII to the Indian Mission/Post where OCI registration was granted. After receipt of the declaration, the Indian Mission/Post shall issue an acknowledgement in Form XXII A.

  45. Do the applicants who have applied on the earlier prescribed application form have to apply again in the new form?
    No. All such applications will be considered for registration as OCI without seeking fresh application and fee.

  46. Who can avail the OCI Miscellaneous services?
    Only a registered Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) can avail the OCI Miscellaneous Services.

  47. Under what circumstances can the services be availed?
    OCI Miscellaneous services can be availed for re-issuance/issuance of duplicate OCI Registration Certificate and Visa in the following category of cases:
    (i) In case of issuance of new passport.
    (ii) In case of change of personal particulars viz. nationality etc.,
    (iii) In case of loss/damage of OCI registration certificate/visa.
    (iv) In case of filling of wrong personal particulars while submitting online applications viz. name, father's name, date of birth etc.,
    (v) In case of manually filled in applications (discontinued now) mistakes have been committed by the Indian Mission/Post/Office while entering the personal particulars.
    (vi) In case of change of address/occupation

  48. How to avail the services?
    The services can be availed by applying Online (please visit weblink http://www.mha.nic.in/oci/oci-main.htm for registration) and submitting two hard copy of the application along with the requisite fee and two photographs, VFS service fees and enclosures as mentioned in the application to the India Passport and Visa Services Centre according to your jurisdiction. However, in case of change of address/occupation, hard copy of the application need not be submitted.

  49. Whether hard copy of the application is required to be submitted for the change of address/occupation?
    No.

  50. Whether a family can apply in the same form?
    No. Each person has to individually apply online for availing the services.

  51. How many copies of the application have to be submitted?
    Two copies should be submitted.

  52. Where the applicant has to go in person to submit the application for OCI Misc. services?
    The application for OCI Miscellaneous services need to be submitted the High Commission/Consulate General of India according to your jurisdiction. Application can also be sent by post. Payment must be in Bank Cheque/ MO/ DD made in favor of the Mission concerned, depending on wherever you are submitting your application. No personal cheques will be accepted.

  53. What is the fee for availing the services?
    The fee is AUD 36.00 for re-issuance of OCI documents. In case of issuance of duplicate OCI documents (for loss/damage of old documents), the fee is AUD 144.00 52.

  54. Whether the fee would be refunded in case the requisite service(s) are not granted?
    No.

  55. Where to submit the application?
    To the India Passport and Visa Services Centre according to your jurisdiction.

  56. What documents have to be enclosed along with the application?
    (i) Copy of OCI registration certificate and visa
    - In case of issuance of new passport, copy of U-visa pasted on the old passport along with copy of registration certificate has to be enclosed. If the old passport is not returned by the concerned authorities while issuing new passport and copy of the U-visa had not been taken prior to the surrender of old passport, they may not be enclosed. A copy of new passport also to be enclosed.
    - In case of loss of OCI Registration Certificate and/or Visa, copy of the complaint lodged with Police authorities and copy of visa and registration certificate to be enclosed. If a copy of the registration certificate and/or visa was not taken prior to the loss, they may not be enclosed.
    - In case of change of personal particulars (due to change by the applicant or wrong filling of particulars by the applicant or Indian Mission/Office), copy of the document (s) relevant for affecting the requisite changes viz. Nationality Certificate in case of change of nationality etc to be enclosed.
    (ii) Fees
    - AUD 36.00 for re-issuance of OCI documents in case of issuance of new passport, change of personal particulars, wrong filing of particulars.
    - AUD 144.00 for issuance of duplicate OCI documents in case of loss/damage.
    (iii) In respect of the service for change of address/occupation, no hard copy of the application shall be submitted to the India Passport and Visa Services Centres.

  57. How to verify the status of the application?
    The status of the application can be verified from the Online Status Enquiry with the file number given after lodgment of your application in the High Commission/Consulate.

  58. What will be issued after availing the services?
    A new OCI Registration Certificate and Visa would be issued after surrender of the old OCI documents.

  59. Whether both OCI Registration Certificate and Visa would be issued afresh?
    Yes. Both OCI Registration Certificate and Visa shall be issued in respect of any/ all service(s).

  60. Whether the applicant has to go in person to the India Passport and Visa Services Centre for obtaining the new OCI documents?
    Applicants must arrange to collect the new OCI document from the High Commission/Consulate directly after checking the online status.

  61. Whether OCI documents have to be re-issued each time a new passport is taken?
    OCI registration certificate and visa have got to be re-issued each time a new passport is issued up to the completion of 20 years of age and once after completion of 50 years of age.
    Re-issuance of OCI registration certificate and visa is not mandatory, each time a new passport is issued between 21-50 years of age. However, if the applicant wishes to obtain new set of OCI documents, he/she can apply for the same.

  62. What should be done for issuance of duplicate OCI documents in case of loss of OCI registration certificate and/or U-visa?
    In case of loss of OCI documents, file a complaint with the Police authorities and enclose a copy of the complaint with the hard copy of the application.

  63. In case of loss/damage of OCI documents, what is the procedure for grant of duplicate OCI documents?
    The duplicate OCI documents shall be granted only after personal interview. The date and time of personal interview shall be intimated by the concerned Indian Mission.

  64. What is the time period for grant of the requisite service(s)?
    The grant or otherwise of the service(s) sought shall be ordinarily decided in one month from the receipt
